Describe your ideal company, location and job.
We all have our dream jobs; however the only answer to this question is to make it what the employer is offering you. Make your answer specific, believable and honest. If you have followed most of the points mentioned above, it should not be difficult as you would have already prepared yourself.
If you’ve had a ‘good career path’ with companies that are leaders in their field or/and if you come from a glamorous & admired job, company, industry or position, it might be a little difficult for the interviewer to understand why you are choosing them, like a ‘second best’ complex.
The worry might even exist even if you have done nothing personally to incite it. It is very important that what the employer can offer you, be high on the list of what you are looking for. You would be even more credible if you are also able to provide reasons for your preference.
If you are not able convincingly communicate you choices regarding the company’s size, location, job or culture you would fail to address the ‘second best’ complex. This would make the interviewer suspicious as to why someone with a ‘good career path’ like you should be selected.
The best way to be sure about the answer you want to give, you need to know/understand more about the company that you are aspiring to work at. Annual reports, corporate newsletter advertisements or articles in the press would all help.
The easiest thing to do would be to search for information on the internet. Also, social networks can help you find people that work at the recruiting company from within your own personal network. This would give you insight into general employee morale, pay scales, management hierarchy and work culture.
